Ithaca Man Arrested After Being Caught in Sexual Act With 13-Year-Old in Parking Garage

Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca Police have arrested a 31-year-old man after he was allegedly caught engaging in a sexual act with a 13-year-old inside the Seneca Street Parking Garage last week.

According to police, Zachariah Waite, of Ithaca, was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday. He has been charged with sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, and public lewdness—all misdemeanors under New York State law.

Waite was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail. Officials say the case remains under active investigation, and additional charges are possible as evidence is reviewed.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in public spaces, particularly in downtown Ithaca’s parking facilities, which have seen prior reports of crime. City officials say increased patrols and surveillance measures are under review.

As the investigation continues, police are stressing the importance of community awareness and cooperation. “If you see something suspicious, report it immediately,” an Ithaca Police spokesperson said.

Waite remains in custody at the Tompkins County Jail pending further court proceedings.
