Geneva Police Department Loses Second Officer Amid Ongoing Criminal Probes

Geneva, N.Y. — The Geneva Police Department (GPD) is facing renewed scrutiny after another officer resigned while under criminal investigation, marking the second departure from the force in recent months.

On Friday, Officer Nathan Jacon submitted his resignation to the department. Jacon, who joined the GPD in December 2023, had been on administrative leave since May while under investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. Officials have not disclosed the nature of the allegations, and no charges have been filed.

Second Officer Resigned in 2024

Jacon’s resignation follows the high-profile case of Officer Michael Tapscott, an 11-year veteran of the department, who was arrested in May for allegedly selling prescription Adderall while on duty. Tapscott resigned shortly after his arrest and is currently facing criminal proceedings.

In the wake of Tapscott’s arrest, Police Chief Ron Eveland confirmed that Jacon and Sergeant David Felice had also been placed on leave as part of the broader investigation being handled by the sheriff’s office. Felice remains suspended and under investigation, though authorities have not clarified whether his case is connected to Tapscott’s.

Department Under Pressure

The developments have placed GPD under mounting pressure at a time when law enforcement agencies across the region are already grappling with recruitment challenges, public accountability demands, and calls for greater transparency.

Chief Eveland previously described the allegations against Tapscott as “deeply unsettling” and pledged full cooperation with outside investigators. He has not issued a new public statement regarding Jacon’s resignation.

Sheriff’s Office Tight-Lipped

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the criminal investigations, has declined to release further details. It remains unclear what specific allegations Jacon or Felice may be facing, or whether the investigations are directly tied to Tapscott’s case.

Sheriff’s officials have said only that the probes remain active and that information will be released once it is appropriate to do so.

Community Concerns

For Geneva residents, the string of departures raises concerns about trust, accountability, and the ability of the department to maintain public confidence. The Geneva Police Department has already faced criticism in recent years over community relations, and these latest revelations may intensify calls for reform and oversight.

Local officials have not commented on whether Jacon’s resignation or the ongoing investigations will prompt an internal review of department policies, hiring practices, or disciplinary procedures.

What’s Next

As of now, Sergeant Felice remains on leave while the sheriff’s office continues its probe. The Geneva Police Department has not disclosed whether additional disciplinary actions are being considered against other members of the force.

For the second time in less than a year, Geneva’s law enforcement leadership finds itself waiting on the results of outside criminal investigations before it can chart a path forward.
